Ginger and turmeric tea is great for stimulating the digestion. It is also good for the immune system, helping to ward off colds and flu.
Holding a warm cup of ginger and turmeric tea is also a very good hand-warmer in winter months!
This is best made with fresh ginger and fresh turmeric, but if you can’t find one or the other, you can use ground spices.
I make a batch of this and keep it in a jar in the fridge to drink over the next couple of days.
Bring 1 litre (4 cups) water to the boil, and then reduce to a gentle simmer. Add 6-8 thin slices ginger and the same amount of thinly-sliced fresh turmeric root.
If using ground spices, use 1 teaspoon ground turmeric and about 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger.
Cook gently for about 10 minutes.
Pour through a fine strainer into a teapot or large jam jar.
When you are ready to serve, pour into a mug and add the juice of a 1/2 fresh lemon or lime to each serving.
If you would like it a bit sweeter, add a pinch of stevia or a smidge of raw honey.
